Mr. Dunavant has been practicing law for over 35 years and has a depth of experience one might expect from a seasoned attorney. He appreciates that his clients look to him for reasoned advice with an eye toward practical solutions to their problems. Mr. Dunavant is mindful that his clients expect timely and cost-effective legal services and makes a concerted effort to provide these services. He concentrates his practice in the areas of general corporate law, cotton matters, commercial real estate, asset-based lending, copyright, and trademark law.
Mr. Dunavant's primary practice areas are:
- Representation of banks in commercial loan closings
- Representation of cotton merchants and cooperatives filing
- Maintaining and preserving trademarks
- Representation of companies in general corporate matters
He has helped his banking clients with multistate real estate closings, asset-based advances, and large unsecured term loans. Mr. Dunavant has assisted his cotton clients in various complex matters, including preference claims in bankruptcy, formation of cooperatives, and cotton-related litigation. He recently represented the largest unsecured creditor in the bankruptcy proceedings of a now-defunct merchant.
Mr. Dunavant has served on the State Board of Law Examiners, as past-president of the firm, and on various civic committees in Germantown, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1969 with a major in political science, and, in December 1973 he earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University. While an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee, Mr. Dunavant was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, an honorary leadership fraternity. He began practicing law in Memphis in 1974 and has continued in private practice since, except for a two-and-one-half-year period in which he served as general counsel and secretary for Media General Broadcast Services, Inc. In his spare time, he likes to fish, read, travel, and play the piano.
